SARAH DOWLING
BIO
Movement direction and choreography
Sarah Dowling is a choreographer, movement director and performer. Sarah initally studied Theatre and English Literature and began working in contemporary theatre before training in contemporary dance at Laban in 2000. This multi disciplinarian start has led Sarah over the past 20 years to develop an artistic practice which is a melting pot of these forms. In 2002 she found a home for her unique blend of dance and theatre experience when she joined Punchdrunk as a performer/creator. Sarah’s 20 years with Punchdrunk has strongly influenced her approach as a creative: seeking a kind of storytelling that wholly combines text/dance/set/light/sound to create a total experience for the audience and performer
Sarah continues to work across multiple art forms as both performer and choreographer; working in theatre, dance, music recital, opera, tv series, adverts, music video and film. Throughout, Sarah has found that her inclusive, playful, creativity igniting approach crosses from art form to art form with ease and, indeed, further deepens her already extensive experience.
Sarah had been movement director for, among other, Warner Bros films Fantastic Beasts, Cats and Tarzan, Working Title films Mary Queen of Scots and Rebecca as well as movement directing the My Brilliant Friend trilogy at the National Theatre. As artist and performer she is currently developing a new dance theatre work with collaborator Kath Duggan, and will be a core performer in the next Punchdrunk show.
